👩🏽‍🍼 Too Young to Mother: Teenage Pregnancies in the Eastern Cape

teenage pregnancies among 10–14-year-olds are on the rise in Eastern Cape

In South Africa’s Eastern Cape, the number of children giving birth between the ages of 10 and 14 has reached alarming levels. Behind every statistic lies the story of a girl forced into motherhood far too soon.

I am currently investigating this crisis, speaking to affected families, communities, and experts. My aim is to uncover:

  • What drives these pregnancies,

  • How young girls are left vulnerable, and

  • Why accountability for the men involved is so often missing.

This is not just a health or education issue — it is about protection, justice, and the future of children in South Africa.

This investigation forms part of my commitment to expose social crises that are overlooked, silenced, or ignored, giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.
