A Year Without Power: Why A Community In Braamfischerville Ext 4 Has Been in Darkness

A community in Braamfischerville Ext 4 has been without for a year

For nearly a year, residents of Braamfischerville Extension 4, Soweto, have been living without electricity. Despite repeated promises from local authorities, the lights remain off, and daily life has become a struggle.

Families rely on candles, paraffin stoves, and generators — at great cost and risk. Parents worry about children studying in the dark, and small businesses have been crippled.

The authorities ahve pointed to infrasture challenges as reasons for the ongoing blackout. But residents believe there is more to the story, and questions remain about who should be held accountable.

I am currently investigating this case — looking into what really happened, who is responsible, and why a modern urban community has been left in the dark for so long.

This investigation is part of my wider work on service delivery failures, public interest and corruption with the aim of demanding transparency and accountability.
